Geopets

Geopets is an augmented reality game in which you try to capture creatures that look similar to pokémon even though they aren't quite the same. To capture these creatures, first you'll need to defeat them when you face them in turn-based combat.

The Geopets developer himself has made it clear that he is the only developer working on this game, so despite the really obvious comparisons to Pokémon GO, keep in mind that he's working alone. Instead of a whole team behind the game, there is only one person doing all of the work. This also explains why the game doesn't look particularly polished.

The mechanics of Geopets are simple: in the turn-based combats, you use your geopets to defeat the enemies and then capture them. Once you do, they'll be added to your collection. There are more than a hundred creatures waiting to join your group of little monsters.

Geopets is an augmented reality game that's very similar to Pokémon GO in terms of its premise, even though it doesn't stand up to comparison. But it's an interesting game nonetheless.
